Sleeping Baby Hearing Foundation
The Sleeping Baby Hearing Foundation (SBHF) was established in 2013 to help promote early identification and treatment of hearing loss in newborns and infants worldwide.
Goals
At this time, the main work of the Foundation is focused on:
- Developing Version 2.0 of the Sleeping Baby Hearing Test App
- Marketing the App to the health care community including family practitioners, pediatricians, neonatologists, pediatric and neonatal nurses and nurse practitioners, audiologists, and speech and language pathologists
- Translating the App into multiple foreign languages, beginning with a Spanish language version
- Updating the original SBHT video demonstrating the use of a mobile phone
- Facilitating a scientific study of the App compared to conventional newborn ABR and OAE screening
- Establishing sponsors and benefactors to help further the work of the Foundation

Current members of the Board and consultants are strictly volunteers. Each member is highly qualified to serve on the Board and maintains a keen interest in the early identification and treatment of hearing loss in children.

Rob Peddrick, CHBC, CFP
Mr. Peddrick is a former Partner, Healthcare Division, at the accounting firm Davenport Marvin Joyce & Co, PLLC, Greensboro, NC.

Sandy Berman
Ms. Berman is an IT expert and worked for IBM in the Research Triangle, Durham, NC.

Gregg D. Givens, Ph.D.
Dr. Givens is an Audiologist, Professor, and Professor Emeritus, Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, East Carolina University, Greensville, NC.

Merry Beth Kraus Kowalczyk, MPH
Ms. Kraus is the former Director, Constituency Section for Health Care Systems at the American Hospital Association, Chicago, IL.

Michael E. Glasscock, III, M.D.
1934-2018
Dr. Glasscock served on the Board until his death in 2018. He was a renowned Otologist-Neurotologist and Adjunct Professor, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN. He was the past president of the American Otologic Society and recipient of that society’s distinguished Award of Merit. Dr. Glasscock was Dr. Bill House’s first Fellow.
